The colder than average winter could have a negative effect on plant material. Semi-hardy plants could experience die back and be off to a slow start in the spring. In addition, the ice storm last December has damaged many ornamental trees and shrubs. Proper pruning and removals will restore the longevity of plants and the entire landscape. Branches that are dead or broken should be cut clean and flush. The overall appearance of a plant should be balanced so some pruning back may be required. Pruning back will encourage new growth for severely damaged plants. The early spring is a good time for pruning all plants. Just be careful not to prune the buds.

The early spring is also a good time to repair or improve your lawn. Topdressing and seeding is best done as early as possible although seeded lawns may not start growing until well into May.

Kamstra Landscaping is here to help with your landscaping projects with advice on the materials to do the job. We have topdressing soil, compost, a variety of grass seed, as well as planting soil, aggregates and decorative stone. We have trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals. Our new plant material will arrive around mid April for a fresh selection.
